Note: This document refers to data retained in a particular electronic database held by Engineering Safety (Department of Labour), and is also relevant to all forms of output (information and reports) from that database. Information available from other sources (internal to The Department or external) is not the subject of this disclosure.

A. Uses to which information may be put
The purposes of collecting data by Engineering Safety are as follows:
- To enable Engineering Safety to contact persons or organisations to:
- Facilitate communications on Engineering Safety business including, but not restricted to, seeking input to draft documents and obtaining feedback to ascertain client satisfaction; and
- Make industry announcements regarding safety or regulatory matters; and
- Make general announcements about significant changes to the web page; and
- To maintain statistics relating to users of the services of Engineering Safety for policy and strategic reasons; and
- To build and maintain information relating to types and location of equipment in use in industry, relevant to the operations of Engineering Safety; and
- To make available, as required, relevant information to the various services of the Labour Department, particularly Workplace, as required in pursuit of its aims; and
- To publish statistical information*, relevant to Engineering Safety or Departmental business, in any publication (physical or electronic); and
- To make statistical information* available, if required, to departments of the public service; and
- To share statistical information*, if required, within appropriate international forums or with overseas national safety organisations having similar aims to Engineering Safety/Department of Labour.
B. Uses to which information will not be put
- Detailed information, which is unique to the Engineering Safety database, will not be disclosed to parties outside the Labour Department without the consent of the parties involved (unless to meet the requirements of the law).
- Statistical information* will not be shared with overseas parties without due regard for its sensitivity to the international market.
*Statistical information is information from which it is not possible to identify any source person or organisation.
C. Administration and Security
- Data maintenance will be controlled by Engineering Safety (Department of Labour) personnel.
- Engineering Safety will determine the appropriateness of the uses to which the data will be put.
- Any person or organisation may, by written request** to Engineering Safety (Department of Labour):
- Ascertain if data is maintained by Engineering Safety on that person or organisation; or
- Be provided with a copy of the data; or
- Have the data amended; or
- Have the data removed from the database.
- The Department of Labour is responsible for the security of all data
**Written requests may be submitted electronically, and in any case must provide sufficient information to verify the identity of the person or organisation. Engineering Safety reserves the right to make further reasonable requests for information in order to verify identity.
