LPG Tankwagon Code - Bulk Transport of Class 2D Dangerous Goods by Road
The LPG Tank Wagon Code (1989) was written in order to comply with the requirements of the Dangerous Goods (Class 2 –Gases) Regulations 1980. It was prepared for the assistance and guidance of designers and owners of vehicles transporting LPG when the Dangerous Goods Act 1974 was in force.
The Dangerous Goods Act and its Regulations have been repealed and replaced by regulations made under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996. These Regulations include the Hazardous Substances (Tank Wagon and Transportable Containers) Regulations 2004, which came into effect on 26 March 2004.
An Approved Code of Practice (HSNOCOP 29-1), called “Approved Code of Practice for Flammable Gases and Oxygen Tank Wagons” has been developed by the Environmental Protection Authority of New Zealand (EPA New Zealand) to provide an acceptable solution for the design and construction of tank wagons for the conveyance of flammable gases and oxygen by road. Please note: this Code only applies to the design, construction and operation of vehicles the commenced construction after 1st July 2008. This code is available from the EPA New Zealand website.
Tank wagons designed and constructed before 1st July 2008 may still continue to comply with the Department’s 1989 Code.
