Flammable Liquids Tankwagon Code
The Flammable Liquids Tankwagon Code was written in order to comply with the requirements of the Dangerous Goods (Class 3(a) – Flammable Liquids) Regulations 1985 and any subsequent amendments. It applies to vehicles used for the transportation of class 3 flammable liquids in bulk by road in tank wagons and includes requirements for the design, construction and operation of these tank wagons.
It applies to vehicles designed and built when the Dangerous Goods Act was in force.
The Dangerous Goods Act and its Regulations have been repealed and replaced by regulations made under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996. These Regulations include the Hazardous Substances (Tank Wagons and Transportable Containers) Regulations 2004, which came into effect on 26 March 2004.
A separate code of practice (HSNO COP 6-1) has been developed by the Environmental Protection Authority of New Zealand (EPA New Zealand) to assist compliance with the Hazardous Substances (Tank Wagons and Transportable Containers) Regulations 2004. This code of practice is available from the EPA New Zealand website.
This code applies to flammable tank wagon vehicles designed and built from 2004.
