Who does the Act apply to?

Ships

Those workers with NZ employers who work on ships continue to have equivalent health and safety protections to other NZ workers.

The Maritime New Zealand is responsible for administering the Act insofar as it relates to ships at sea.

For the Act to apply

• the worker must have a NZ employment agreement
• the ship must be
• a NZ ship (wherever it might operate), or
• a foreign ship on demise charter to a NZ operator (when operating on NZ’s coast)
