Worst Workplaces

A selection of workplaces practically guaranteed to make you sick or have an accident . . . proudly presented by Dr Aargh. If your workplace looks like this, you should contact the Department of Labour . . .pronto.

You'd probably prefer to wait until you get home rather than use this toilet . . . or the handwashing basin. Employers must provide clean sanitary facilities for their employees.

Toxic chemicals and rubbish in this farmer's rusty storage shed create health, safety and environmental hazards.

Electrical extension cables on this workshop floor are just waiting to trip someone up. If one of the steel beams were dropped on the cable, it could become 'live' and electrocute someone.

A finger or hand caught in the nip between the chain and sprocket transmission on this milling machine would be amputated in seconds.Loose clothing could also be caught and pull you into the machine. By law, these parts must be covered with a guard. The product spilt on the floor will attract rodents - a health risk.

Dust and yarn fibres fill the air of this factory. In certain cases like this, a dust explosion is possible - this in turn could trigger a fire and destroy the building, with loss of life. The electrical cable draped across the floor is a tripping hazard.

We hate to think what this guy's bedroom looked like. The Department ordered him to clean up his business premises.

Going, going . . . gone. There's a real risk of an electrical fire if this ceiling isn't fixed.
